Gore Bay for Canada Day!
My sister has been living on Manitoulin Island for a little over a year. But with the chaos of a new baby and her short work weeks, we’ve had a hard time coordinating a visit. Finally, our schedules aligned, Robbie and I made the trip and visited for a few days. While we were there, we walked the gorgeous boardwalk and checked out boats at the marina. We also discovered a micro-brewery: Split Rail Brewing Company.
They recently opened on July 24, 2015, and completed a beautiful patio that you can sit on, sip an ale of your choice (Copper Lager, Amber Ale, Hawberry Ale, or Loon Song Oats Stout). Above pictured is the Copper Lager. I also tasted the Amber Ale and Loon Song Oats Stout. I’m not much for a stout, but the Amber Ale was also delicious.
It is a great place to sit back on the patio and overlook Gore Bay. Also a great way to support a local business! While we were there for Canada Day weekend, Split Rail had asked a local pizza truck to park beside their patio. You could order a slice and sip your beer.
Have I mentioned the patio? It was great! Also a dog-friendly zone, Jess was able to bring Daisy, her boxer-lab, onto the patio with us. If you’re on the Island, you should check it out! You can also purchase beer by the bottle, six pack or growler to take home. They also sell handcrafted wooden crates to carry your bottles or growlers. Great for travelling from port to port, or from island to mainland! Jess is actually stopping by next week to bring home some growlers!
